At Home Denture Care

Learning To Care For Your Dentures At Home Seems Easy Enough, Just As Long As You Follow A Few Instructions To Keep Them Safe

Every patient who comes to our denture clinic is provided with the most updated and proper way to care for their dentures at home. It is very important to ensure your dentures are cleaned every day and after every meal. This is because the food particles caught in your dentures, just like regular teeth, create acid when mixed with saliva. This can cause your dentures to produce plaque, have an odor, become discolored, and can even cause gum disease.

To keep your dentures clean, they should be brushed with a soft denture brush and non-abrasive denture cream. It is important to note that you should rinse your dentures thoroughly under warm water after brushing them. As an alternative, they can also be soaked in a denture cleaner. We also recommend mixing up how you clean your dentures, switching between a brush and a soaking clean.

Most patients who have dentures usually take them out at night to soak in water, however, this is not mandatory. Some patients do prefer to keep their dentures in as it helps prevent joint pain. Should you choose to soak your dentures at night, do not use boiling water, bleach, or other detergents to clean them. During your cleaning, if you notice any signs of wear, signs of plaque, or stains, please call our office as it is better and more efficient to fix these issues now.
